I am a Cornell-trained, board-certified psychiatrist specializing in addiction and its treatment. The people I treat are rarely who you would expect. They are often accomplished and composed, the kind of person others lean on. What brings them to treatment is something they have been managing privately for a long time. The rest of their life has kept moving forward as if nothing were wrong. Addiction is rarely the whole story. In most of my patients, the drinking or the substance use has been a way of managing something older, quieter, and harder to name. Sometimes it is anxiety that never lets up. Sometimes it is a depression they have learned to work through. Sometimes it is a pressure that has been building for decades. Both need to be part of the treatment. My approach integrates psychotherapy with medication management when appropriate. I am currently accepting new patients. If any of this sounds familiar, I would welcome the chance to talk and see whether working together is the right fit.
