Introduction

Greetings, and welcome. I am Alfred Thomas, Jr., a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with over 18 years of clinical experience. I am the founder of Big Oak Counseling and Consulting, LLC, a fully virtual therapy practice created to support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, and life transitions. As a Black male therapist, I am deeply committed to normalizing therapy and increasing access to culturally responsive mental health services within the Black community—particularly for Black men who may be seeking a therapist who understands their lived experiences, cultural context, and unique stressors. My approach to therapy is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I currently provide online therapy to individuals ages 16 and older residing in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, Vermont, and Washington State, allowing clients to receive high-quality mental health care from the privacy and convenience of their own space. My ideal client is someone who is open to self-reflection and motivated to develop practical tools for emotional growth. I specialize in working with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, anger management, grief, addiction, and phobias. My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Clinical Hypnotherapy, allowing me to address both conscious thought patterns and deeper subconscious processes. This integrative model is particularly effective in promoting lasting emotional and behavioral change. I believe that effective therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, transparency, and mutual respect. To support this, I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation where you can ask questions, share your goals, and determine whether we are a good fit. If you are a Black man seeking therapy, or an individual looking for a thoughtful, experienced clinician who values cultural awareness and practical results, I invite you to take the next step. Please use the button above to schedule your free consultation, and let’s begin this work together. “Your thoughts create your emotions; therefore, your emotions cannot prove that your thoughts are accurate" -Dr. David Burns
