Nervous about starting therapy? Good news: that’s most people. Many of my clients walk into their first session unsure what to expect. Therapy with me is a real conversation, not a clipboard interview. Expect some humor, plenty of analogies, and probably a story or two. My goal is to lower the temperature of the room, without ever taking what you tell me lightly. When you feel comfortable with someone, it’s a lot easier to say the hard things out loud, and that’s where real growth happens. I’m Alison Bailey, and I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years. I named my practice UntangLife Counseling (pronounced Untangle Life) because that’s what we do: find the loose ends of whatever’s knotted up and work through it together, at your pace. There’s no script and no rigid agenda. We’ll follow what matters to you. I specialize in trauma, anxiety and panic disorders, and recovery from narcissistic abuse or otherwise harmful relationships. I’m trained in EMDR, which helps painful memories lose their grip. I’m also a Texas Medical Board–certified AcuDetox Specialist, offering gentle ear acupuncture that many clients find calming and grounding, especially when it’s hard to talk. You’re coming to see a therapist, but it should feel a little like catching up with a friend who happens to be really good at this. You don’t need to show up with the right words. Just show up. I see clients in person in the DFW area and via telehealth across Texas.
