All About Recovery Counseling Philosophy and Approach: I believe in using evidence-based practices with clients as appropriate. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is my first choice. I believe individuals can examine their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with guidance from a counselor, which helps them move toward their desired results in the counseling session. I also believe in Solution-Focused Methods and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Motivational Interviewing is a tool I use for individuals who are unsure about the next step in their recovery journey. Formal Education and Training: I hold a master’s degree in counseling from Argosy University, San Francisco Bay Area. Major coursework included counseling courses, including counseling skills, multicultural studies, substance abuse, maladaptive behavior, ethics, confidentiality, human growth and development, and couples and families. I had the opportunity to work with Seriously Mentally Ill clients and Dialectical Behavioral Health Groups. I have a background in delivering client-centered counseling. My pre-degree hours were completed at a County Mental Health Agency. I worked to understand client needs and foster growth and development with quality, evidence-based counseling skills. What to Expect from Individual Therapy: Therapy begins with the initial intake (typically 1 hour), during which we will explore important background information and start developing a treatment plan for all subsequent sessions. All sessions usually last between 53 and 60 minutes, during which we begin the process of working towards your goals. These sessions will be reserved for you and your needs. The number of sessions will depend on the complexity of your goal and will be discussed with you, so you have an expectation about the duration of therapy. The change process is an individual process that doesn’t have a specific length of time to complete and can change as life changes. During your journey, we may decide to decrease or increase sessions depending on the challenges that come up.
