Introduction

Good day and welcome to Monte Cristo Counseling, currently serving clients in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas. I'm glad you are here. I'm a Licensed Counselor who has spent the last decade working in private practice and crisis services in Portland, Oregon, and recently "retired" to the beach to be closer to family, skydive at the beach, and continue counseling work with my private practice on east coast time. I write, travel for research, and speak at conferences. You deserve a space where your values, identity, and lived experience are respected without judgment. Many of my clients come to me because they want therapy that is evidence‑based, inclusive, and free from religious or moral pressure. Or maybe you've read or heard about my story overcoming fear and fighting my own struggles with oppression and injustice to find courage, resolve, and a commitment to live well, in spite of everything. Regardless, I welcome you. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the new cutting-edge Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R), and person‑centered approaches that help you understand patterns, build practical skills, and move toward a life that feels meaningful and aligned with your values. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationship stress, identity questions, or the impact of living in a politically or culturally divided environment, we work together to create clarity and momentum. My practice is fully affirming of LGBTQIA+ clients, neurodivergent and differently abled clients, nontraditional families, progressive social values, and diverse cultural backgrounds. I welcome clients who identify as secular, humanist, atheist, agnostic, spiritual-but-not-religious, or simply looking for therapy that centers humanity rather than doctrine. Living on the coast in North Carolina can mean balancing beautiful community with complex social dynamics. Same for my clients in South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. If you’re seeking a therapist who understands that tension, someone who offers warmth, humor, and practical tools without judgment, I’m here. Plus I also deal with life by jumping out planes so there's that too. Reach out and let's do some therapy!
