Hello! My name is Andrea, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor here at Feelings and Rainbows. I am Vietnamese American and a daughter of refugees, and I was inspired to become a therapist after perceiving the need for healing from generational trauma and oppression. I believe that therapy and healing are culturally unique and a political and intergenerational process. Sometimes, the obstacles we face relate to systemic issues, such as systems of patriarchy, racism, colonization, homophobia and transphobia, and capitalism. I aim to provide an affirming space to guide clients in exploring the interaction of their identities, beliefs about their self-concept, and perception of their relationships. My approach is psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and strengths-based. I also like to incorporate self-compassion, parts work, and identity and value exploration. I use kindness and humor to ease clients into vulnerable moments and support them as they discover their own power and autonomy. I believe clients are already equipped with the ability to work through their issues, and that therapy is a collaborative process to support the empowerment of a client’s sense of self. Additionally, my approach includes the exploration of modalities of healing most effective and relevant for the client, as well as inviting mindfulness and self-compassion throughout the healing process. I enjoy working with individuals experiencing life transitions, going through identity formation processes, and recovering from complex trauma. I have worked with individuals experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, grief, and personal growth. I have also worked with clients who have experienced domestic violence, community violence, and gun violence. With each of my clients, I have been honored to know and work alongside them as they developed their strength and resilience through challenging life events. In my free time, I love to find and cook new recipes, play tennis, spend time outdoors, read science fiction, and play with my cat, Slinky.
