Introduction

My name is Angélica Hendrix and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute and my Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Studies from San José State University. I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Latin woman, and a trauma focused clinician. I have experience working with adults dealing with PTSD/PTSI, complex and intergenerational trauma, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse survivors, addiction, relationship difficulties, and communication challenges. I also have experience working with First Responders and their significant others and spouses. Since 2014, I have volunteered and I have also worked on the staff at the First Responder Support Network, a residential treatment center for First Responders and their families. Additionally, I have experience working with couples, including multi-cultural relationships, as well as LGBTQIA+ relationships, and I approach this work through a holistic lens with a focus on attachment. I also approach therapy through a social justice lens, open to learning directly from each client's subjective experiences. As the wife of a retired law enforcement officer, I understand the importance of finding a culturally competent therapist who understands the uniqueness of the first responder culture as well as how the job can deeply impact the family unit. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples learn healthy coping skills to enable them to thrive, rather than just survive, while also helping them as they build the meaningful and connected relationships they long for. I utilize an array of evidenced based treatment modalities to assist clients, including Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR), EFT/EFIT (Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals), IFS (Internal Family Systems), The Flash Technique, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management), and Brain Spotting. I also incorporate Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for stress reduction and to help cope with triggers. I incorporate my clinical training, education and life experience to help you form a treatment plan that best helps you meet your goals. As each individual has their own complex needs, my approach to therapy is client-centered, warm and very collaborative where each session will be tailored to your specific needs. I believe that you inherently possess the ability to heal from life’s challenges with gentle, compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental guidance. If you're struggling or are feeling stuck, feel free to call me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we are a good therapeutic fit. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our canine. I enjoy gardening and time in nature, and the ocean is my happy place. Laughter and having a sense of humor are also some of my natural stress relievers. I have an interest in learning new languages and learning about a variety of cultural experiences, customs and traditions. Professional Affiliations: CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) NCCEFT (Northern California Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy) I have been serving on the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Committee, which is part of the NCCEFT Board, since it's inception in 2021). ICEEFT (International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation Inc.)
