Introduction

Hi, I’m April Eastman, and I’m so glad you’re here. I believe therapy begins with having a place where you can feel safe enough to be honest, curious, and fully yourself. People often come to therapy carrying experiences they have been trying to manage on their own for a long time. Sometimes those experiences have a name, like trauma, anxiety, depression, or OCD. Other times, something simply does not feel right, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. My work is grounded in the belief that people are more than the difficult things that have happened to them. I work with adults, adolescents, and children, helping them better understand what they are experiencing, recognize their strengths, develop resilience, and move toward meaningful change. With children and teens, I understand that sitting across from a therapist and talking about feelings is not always the most natural way to communicate. Therapy may look different depending on a young person’s age, personality, and needs. My goal is to create a space where children and adolescents can express themselves, feel understood, and develop healthier ways of navigating their emotions and experiences. You do not have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can begin with where you are. Credentials & Training I hold a Master of Science degree and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). My clinical work includes specialized training and experience in trauma treatment, EMDR therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and working with children and adolescents. My marriage and family therapy background also shapes the way I understand people. Even when I am working with one individual, I recognize that our relationships, families, environments, and past experiences can influence how we understand ourselves and respond to the world around us. I work with adults, adolescents, and children experiencing concerns including trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, complex trauma, and other emotional and life challenges. My Approach to Trauma & EMDR Therapy Trauma can affect far more than our memories. Difficult experiences can influence how we see ourselves, how safe we feel, how we relate to others, and how our bodies respond even when we logically know that a danger has passed. I use trauma-informed approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help clients process experiences that may continue to feel emotionally unresolved. EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help the brain process distressing memories and experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. Trauma therapy is not about forcing you to revisit painful experiences before you are ready. We work together at a thoughtful pace, developing safety, understanding your responses, identifying strengths and resources, and determining what approach makes sense for you. My Approach to Adult Therapy Adults come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, a difficult transition, or experiences from the past that continue to affect your life today. You may also simply recognize that the ways you have learned to cope are no longer working as well as they once did. My approach is collaborative and compassionate. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work to understand what is happening beneath them and what may be keeping certain patterns in place. Therapy can become a place to understand yourself more deeply, develop healthier ways of responding to difficult emotions, build on the strengths you already possess, and begin creating changes that extend beyond the therapy room. My Approach to Adolescent & Teen Therapy Adolescence can be an incredibly complicated season of life. Teens are navigating identity, relationships, school expectations, family dynamics, increasing independence, and emotions that can sometimes feel overwhelming. I work with adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional challenges, and other difficulties that can interfere with their relationships, confidence, or everyday lives. My goal is to provide teens with a space where they can feel respected rather than judged. Together, we work toward understanding what they are experiencing, identifying their strengths, developing healthy coping and communication skills, and building the resilience they need as they move toward adulthood. My Approach to Child & Play Therapy Children do not always have the words to explain what they are experiencing. For children, play can be a natural language for communicating thoughts, emotions, relationships, fears, and experiences. I use Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) to provide children with a developmentally appropriate therapeutic environment where they can express themselves through play rather than being expected to communicate like adults. Within the safety and structure of the therapeutic relationship, children have opportunities to explore emotions, develop confidence, practice problem-solving, strengthen emotional regulation, and discover their own capacity for growth. When appropriate, I also collaborate with parents and caregivers so that the progress occurring in therapy can be understood and supported in the child's everyday world.
