I’m April Lawson, MS, ALC, NCC, a mental health counselor committed to creating a space where clients feel safe, respected, understood, and free to show up as their authentic selves. My approach is grounded in person-centered, trauma-informed care, with an emphasis on meeting each client where they are rather than trying to fit them into a particular mold. My clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across a variety of settings. I have a particular interest in the ways trauma, shame, relationships, and our physical health can influence mental and emotional well-being. I have completed additional training in shame- and trauma-informed care and continue to expand my knowledge in these areas. I’m especially interested in the connection between nutrition, body image, and mental health. I believe meaningful change often involves looking at the whole person—their experiences, relationships, environment, physical health, and emotional well-being. When working with caregivers and families, I strive to provide practical, compassionate support that promotes balance without shame or judgment. As a counselor, my goal is not to tell you who you should be. It is to walk alongside you as you better understand yourself, work through what you’ve experienced, and develop the tools to move forward.
