Introduction

Areum Kim is a counselor-in-training pursuing her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wheaton College. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and has a background in teaching and mental health research. As a trauma-informed, multicultural, and collaborative counselor, Areum strives to create a space where clients can slow down, feel heard, and explore what they are carrying without judgment. She works alongside clients to make sense of their experiences, develop greater self-compassion, and recognize the strengths they already carry while finding meaningful ways forward. As a Third Culture Kid, Areum was born in Korea and grew up in the Philippines. Having lived and worked across Korea, the Philippines, the United States, and Australia, she has a particular appreciation for the ways identity, belonging, relationships, and life transitions can shape our experiences. She enjoys working with clients from diverse backgrounds and meeting each person with openness and curiosity. Outside of counseling, Areum enjoys soccer and hiking, dancing Zumba with friends, and connecting with loved ones over a cup of chai tea.
