Shelby (they/them) witnessed firsthand the toll that sustained activism and generational trauma can take on individuals and communities throughout their organizing journey in community. Recognizing the deep need for mental health care in organizing spaces, they committed to the path of becoming a counselor—dedicating themselves to collective healing and liberation. Shelby’s therapeutic interests center around generational trauma, including racial trauma, immigration trauma, systemic violence, internalized cultural assimilation, and domestic violence. They aim to integrate the values of community organizing into their counseling practice—grounded in the belief that all human life is valuable, and that healing happens in community. Callen practices Trauma-informed care and incorporates other affirming practices such as Health at Every Size and sex positivity in their therapy sessions.
