I began my career focusing on child maltreatment and family violence. Noticing the impact that substance use disorders had on the family unit, I interned at a methadone clinic and focused my training on working with adults with substance use disorders. I quickly saw how trauma played an integral role in my clients’ substance use and knew I had to learn more about trauma. I became trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and attended monthly group supervision with Dr. Deborah Korn for three years while treating multiple patients who were diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and PTSD. I have since applied many of these techniques when working with frontline workers and healthcare professionals.
