Introduction

If you are reading this, well done! I know that seeking out a therapist can be a difficult process, especially when you are, as they say, “going through it.” I applaud you for taking that first step, and I would be happy to join you as you take many more in your mental health journey. My name is Binta, and I am a black, queer, Muslim therapist. As the daughter of Senegalese immigrants, I understand the challenges that come with being a first- and second-generation American, particularly when it comes to navigating the waters of gender identity, sexuality, class, and religion. Regardless of your identities, the center of my work lies in the co-creation of a collaborative therapeutic relationship with each client to support and empower each of them to grow and realize their potential. Through a trauma-informed and values-based lens, I believe that therapy can be a powerful tool in the face of life’s challenges, ranging from identity exploration to life transitions to systemic oppression. I have worked extensively with clients to address their concerns around trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, gender and sexuality development, and navigating systems of privilege and oppression. I have worked primarily with folks experiencing marginalization as they navigate the intersections of their identity—whether it be due to their racial or cultural background, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion/spirituality, or immigration status. Regardless of who you are, I hope that we can co-create a space to nurture reflection and personal growth.
