I am truly blessed. For the past 19 years, I have found a profession that encompasses so many of my interests: study, creating relationships, personal well-being, creativity, and walking alongside people who endeavor health, healing, and personal growth. My work incorporates influences from several theoretical paradigms, but I have come to realize that the core to effective therapy is a strong and trusting relationship between therapist and client. One of the reasons this is important is because dysfunctional relationships are often at the core of our suffering. For many people, healing can begin when we experience a trusting and functional relationship with a therapist who is skilled at unconditional positive regard and the ability to lovingly challenge and confront dysfunctional patterns. I believe that people have within them the ability to heal but that finding that inner voice is sometimes limited by trauma, grief, stress, and dysfunctional coping skills. I work from a Humanistic-Existential perspective to help my clients find their inner personal truth and express it. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR which assist clients in shifting core self-beliefs that are keeping them stuck in dysfunctional patterns of behavior. I have a deep appreciation for attachment theory and the neuroscience of relationships. Understanding how our early relational experiences shape our nervous system, our beliefs about ourselves and others, and our patterns of connection and disconnection is foundational to the work I do. I incorporate somatic and mindfulness-based approaches to help clients develop greater self-awareness and regulation, and I use expressive arts techniques to access parts of the self that are sometimes difficult to reach through words alone. I am most known for my couple therapy skills and training — I LOVE MY COUPLES!--even the high-conflict ones!! It is challenging work but rewarding. We are built to be in a relationship so when our intimate partnership relationship is challenging, we will find ourselves compromised as individuals. I use humor, love, and teach skills utilizing the Gottman Method and Relational Life Therapy. I am also trained in Emotion Focus Couple Therapy and the Developmental Model of couple therapy. In my personal life, I treasure the time I spend with my husband, kids, and now grandkids. We enjoy Redding Shasta County and all that it offers. I also spend time in spiritual pursuits, and lots and lots of time in my art studio.
