Introduction

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston–Downtown and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. I am a Certified Dialectical Behavioral Therapist and EMDR-trained. I’m Chelsea Freeman, MEd, LPC, CDBT, a Black therapist deeply committed to supporting adolescents and young adults in BIPOC communities who are navigating eating disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), suicidal ideation, and self-injurious behaviors. I know firsthand that these struggles often go unseen, minimized, or misunderstood in our families, schools, churches, and communities. My mission is to change that narrative. My work is grounded in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) because it offers structure, skills, and compassion, three things so many of us were never taught but desperately needed. Whether you’re dealing with intense emotions, identity confusion, body image pain, or patterns that feel out of your control, I help you understand why these experiences exist and how to build a life that isn’t ruled by them. I specialize in making space for clients who have felt invisible or misdiagnosed, who were told they were “too much,” “dramatic,” or “just strong,” while quietly fighting battles no one saw. My approach blends talk therapy with practical, culturally conscious strategies tailored to your lived experience and your nervous system. With experience across multiple levels of care, from residential programs to outpatient settings, I’m confident in my ability to provide thorough assessment, trauma-informed support, and evidence-based treatment. No two journeys look the same, especially in BIPOC communities where healing can require unlearning survival mode and reclaiming self-compassion. I’m here to walk that journey with you. Your story matters. Your healing matters. And you don’t have to do this alone.
