Introduction

Crystal McDougle, LICSW, is the founder of The Practice of Living. Her clinical work rests on a simple premise: being human is not a problem to fix. It's a practice. Underneath most high performance is a quiet fear: that slowing down means falling behind, that stopping means unraveling, that without the achievement there might not be much left standing. That fear rarely gets spoken aloud. It just gets outrun. Crystal's work begins where the outrunning stops. Her approach is relational, trauma-informed, and integrative, grounded in curiosity, reflection, and personal agency. Rather than offering another framework for optimizing life, she works with the stories clients are running on, the patterns inherited without ever being chosen, and the version of themselves they're actually trying to become. Her clinical approach doesn't come only from training. It comes from her own experience as a Division I athlete and entrepreneur, and from what she's had to rebuild after loss and health challenges of her own. That's given her a close view of the difference between performing wellness and actually living it. Crystal is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Social Work, with research interests in creativity, community, and collective wellbeing.
