Introduction

Big Shoulders Counseling is dedicated to helping individuals navigate diverse mental health issues and concerns that arise throughout life. Clients can expect a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental environment; a structured, organized and collaborative process; and a candid, transparent and accountable relationship. I came to counseling as a career changer. After 20+ years as a healthcare executive (including business development, strategy and law), I craved a closer connection to patients and clients. Counseling blends elements of personal relationships, listening and understanding, strategic and structured thinking, collaboration, and advising that I have used in my prior work. Applying these skills as a counselor allows me to help individuals work through complex issues and challenges, build strength and resilience, and achieve goals for their mental health and lives. My counseling approach integrates complementary elements of person-centered therapy, strengths-based perspectives, CBT and existential theory, among other modalities. I have particular interest in helping adults work through life changes and challenges, including: managing stress and anxiety, balancing personal and professional responsibilities, navigating relationships, parenting, and experiencing grief and loss.
