Plenty of men can name the problem. The drinking, the anxiety, the distance from people they care about. What is harder is admitting they have run out of ways to handle it alone. I am an LCSW and a Licensed Addiction Counselor, and I work with young adult and adult men on substance use alongside the anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship strain that usually sit underneath it. Treating the drinking or the using without touching what drives it tends not to hold. We work on both. I have advanced training in EMDR and IFS. EMDR is for the memories and emotions that keep resurfacing no matter how much you have talked about them, and it takes the charge out of experiences you cannot seem to leave behind. IFS is for the internal conflict, when part of you wants to change and another part is not convinced, and neither one is wrong. You will not get pressure here to snap out of it or push through. You will get someone who takes the pressure you are under seriously and works with you on it.
