Introduction

Life has a way of handing us what feels like more than we can bear at times. It can come in the form of illness, pain, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, or just a multitude of never-ending stressors. However and whenever it presents itself, we can find ourselves stuck when our resources are thin and our tools seem inadequate. My goal is help my clients learn to be defined not by their current or past circumstances, thoughts or feelings, but by the choices they commit to. We accomplish this by learning to experience and process natural emotions while explore patterns and perspectives that may be contributing in unhelpful ways. I want my clients to cultivate a meaningful life that reflects their values, not their stressors. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University, trained in community clinics and the Loma Linda VA Medical Center, and completed a fellowship in Behavioral Medicine and Psycho-Oncology at the UCSD/San Diego VA Healthcare System. Prior to private practice, I worked at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, serving our active-duty Sailors and Marines. I received training as a Health Psychologist, which means I treat somatic symptom disorders and work with those needing to improve coping with and managing chronic medical conditions, such as pain, insomnia, amputations, cancer, diabetes, cardiac concerns, IBS, Functional Neurologic disorder and many more. I have had the great pleasure of working alongside physicians, neurologists, cardiologists, psychiatrists, nurses, physical therapists and other providers to provide holistic care in complex medical cases. Even if clients do not have specific health concerns, I use my expertise to help them understand how their stressors manifest physically and help them increase insight about their functioning. I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which has been validated as an effective treatment for a range of conditions. This is because it focuses on how we engage with any stressor, rather than the type of stressor. For specific disorders, I may use other validated treatments, such as CBT-Chronic Pain, CBT-Insomnia or CPT for PTSD. My therapy style is warm, direct and interactive - and hopefully fun! I want my clients to feel comfortable showing up authentically, as I will do the same. I strive to treat everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. Please reach out so we can discuss what therapy could look like for you.
