Introduction

Hey y’all, my name is Dr. Claire McCullough and I look forward to working with you. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in NC and for telehealth in SC. I received my undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University (GO DEACS!!) and my masters degree from the University of Cincinnati. I completed my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Kent State University, where my doctoral dissertation explored parental experiences of adolescents with eating disorders during Phase I of a Modified Maudsley Treatment Program. (Side note, Ohio is COLD….) I am also a Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider. Clinically, I’ve focused primarily on the treatment of eating disorders, non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors, depression, anxiety, family systems therapy, and couples therapy. I’ve worked at the Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders in Cleveland, Ohio (currently the Emily Program), the Renfrew Center of Charlotte and also had a private practice in my hometown of Shelby, North Carolina – the home of livermush, the Cleveland Country Fair, and the best BBQ in the nation! Most recently, I was Clinical Director of Veritas Collaborative, Charlotte. I have extensive training and expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Maudsley Family Therapy, also known as Family Based Treatment. I’ve worked in partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings and have expertise in providing evidenced-based, best practice care. Additionally, I have a great amount of experience in clinical supervision of both counseling students and counselors working towards independent licensure. I’ve also had the chance to teach undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level classes at Case Western School of Medicine, North Eastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Kent State University, and Gardner-Webb University. One of my absolute greatest passions is working with individuals, families, and couples as they begin the process of acceptance and change. I firmly believe that all individuals and families have the absolute right to compassionate and effective care, and my attitude towards the therapeutic process is to both balance validation and understanding while also facilitating change and healing. I have two young girls (age 8 and 10) who keep me on my toes. We also have a new puppy, Charli Lou, who will hopefully soon be a therapy dog! I love Wake Forest sports, my hometown farmers market on Saturday mornings, and spending time in the low country of South Carolina. If you’re ever swinging through my hometown of Shelby, NC I highly encourage you to visit Bridges BBQ and our court square in uptown – we have such a great small town feel.
