Dr. Emma Harrison holds a Psy.D. in clinical psychology, and her training carried an emphasis on diverse populations, which informs the whole of her work. She is a psychology postdoctoral fellow and provides individual therapy in English for adults, in person in Houston and online across Texas. She completed her predoctoral internship working in Native communities on the Winnebago and Omaha reservations. Before that, her training took her through a community mental health center and a dual-diagnosis treatment program. Her experience included individual and group work with adults living with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and substance use, in settings where long-standing mental illness is part of ordinary clinical life and where treatment has to be steady. Dr. Harrison works relationally, with attention to the patterns that repeat in people's life. She takes each patient's history, culture, and circumstances as part of the clinical picture. Her training includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance-based approaches, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and she draws on these where a symptom needs to be worked with directly, while keeping the deeper question in view. Her training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment shapes how she thinks about diagnosis. She is careful with people who arrive with a label that has changed from one provider to the next, and she takes the time to understand a case before deciding what a symptom means. Her focus areas include anxiety, depression, identity, and the difficulties that surface in close relationships.
