Dr. Irma Khelghati (she/her) is a Clinical Psychologist and the founder and executive director of Journey Psychology Center. She is a bilingual (Bosnian) clinician with over two decades of mental healthcare experience who specializes in psychological assessment, complex trauma, child development, and empowering parents. She earned her Doctorate and Master of Arts degrees in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Child and Adolescent Psychology, from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Journalism from DePaul University. She is certified in EMDR and Circle of Security Parenting and uses trauma-informed approaches with a strong emphasis on integration of mind, body, and relationships to support each person’s growth toward inner peace, resilience, and living with intention. Dr. Khelghati’s approach is grounded in psychodynamic principles, interpersonal neurobiology, and multicultural psychology, emphasizing the importance of early relationships and cultural and systemic influences on our development and growth. She is passionate about supporting kids and teens and empowering parents – often working with caregivers seeking to interrupt the transmission of trauma to future generations by helping them make meaning of their stories and nurture growth and wellness. Similarly, she enjoys working with adults who want to better understand themselves and heal wounds of the past. She provides therapy, workshops, and therapeutic neuropsychological assessment across the lifespan to support meaningful insight and change. When not working directly with clients, she leads our training program for future psychologists and provides clinical supervision to doctoral students and early-career clinicians. Dr. Khelghati approaches her work with the belief that meaningful change begins with compassionate understanding—of oneself, of one’s history, and of the relationships that shape us. She centers warmth and clinical excellence and is honored to support the growth journey of each person she works with.
