Dr. Janelle Johnson's Professional Biography Dr. Janelle Johnson, PhD, LPC, NCC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor with more than 15 years of clinical counseling experience. She is the founder of Life Balance Counseling, a Colorado-based private practice established in 2011. Her mission is to promote mental and emotional well-being, personal growth, education, and empowerment while helping reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health support. Dr. Johnson works with adults experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, relationship concerns, life transitions, emotional challenges, and concerns related to self-worth and identity. She believes counseling should provide a supportive space where clients can openly express their experiences, better understand their thoughts and emotions, and identify the values that are important to them. Through this process, clients can develop practical strategies to create greater balance, strengthen relationships, and navigate life's challenges. Her therapeutic approach is collaborative, integrative, and person-centered, recognizing that counseling is not a one-size-fits-all process. Dr. Johnson considers each client's individual experiences, culture, values, strengths, needs, and goals while incorporating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and interpersonal approaches. Her goal is to help clients recognize patterns, strengthen coping skills, develop healthier relationships, and move toward meaningful and sustainable change. Dr. Johnson earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Grand Canyon University and her Master of Arts in Counseling from Regis University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Family Resources and Human Development from Arizona State University and an Associate of Arts in Business from Phoenix College. In addition to her clinical practice, she serves as an Online Adjunct Instructor at Grand Canyon University, where she integrates her clinical experience, scholarship, and commitment to education into the classroom. Her professional and scholarly interests include grief and bereavement, anxiety, relationships, family dynamics, caregiving, emotional wellness, and mental health education. Her doctoral research examined gender differences in preparedness and burden among adult children providing unpaid care to aging or ill parents. Her work as a clinician, researcher, and educator contributes to her understanding of how relationships, life experiences, coping resources, and emotional well-being can influence individuals and families. Beyond counseling and higher education, Dr. Johnson has contributed to mental health education through community service, writing, public speaking, and media appearances. Her professional service has included involvement with the Colorado Black Health Collaborative, the Colorado State Board of Registered Psychotherapists, and the NAACP Denver Branch, where she served as Mental Health Chair. She has also provided mental health commentary for Denver-area television news, appeared as a featured psychotherapist on TV One's Fatal Attraction, and contributed to community and mental health publications. Across her roles as a counselor, educator, researcher, author, and mental health advocate, Dr. Johnson remains committed to making mental health information understandable and accessible. She encourages individuals to develop greater self-awareness, recognize their strengths, strengthen their relationships, and access supportive resources when needed. Ultimately, her work reflects a commitment to helping individuals pursue greater emotional well-being, personal growth, and more fulfilling lives.
