Thank you for considering working with me. I became a doctor after working many years in the field of mental health. It was a decision I took very seriously, because early on I was fortunate to have mentors who had helped me understand that countless approaches, meant to do well, instead do harm. Those experiences continue to inform my work with people of all ages and from many walks of life. If you and I work together, you'll soon be stepping off the well-trod path of treatment as usual. All varieties of therapy help people imagine new ways of addressing things they've come to fear, take for granted, and so on. My goal is to support you in doing just that. Whether it's the loss of love, the pain of abuse, the destruction of your sense of self, or worse, problems can be hard to pinpoint at the beginning because people make costly compromises in the name of safety, comfort, stability, etc. My approach is guided by the sense that these compromises remain unrecognizable if we focus exclusively on symptoms, behaviors, and conflicts that seem to all the world like the main problems. Your life is more complex than that, for better and for worse. We will work together to recognize these elusive complexities, developing a unique idiom of care in the process, the better to speak to your own potential for growth. This kind of intuitively informed therapy can feel risky, sometimes fiery and other times stagnant, but it holds the promise of lasting transformation.
