Introduction

I'm a proud city girl from Hartford, CT, with Jamaican roots, I’ve always carried a heart for service — blending lived experience, cultural wisdom, and clinical expertise. I hold a PhD in Clinical Social Work, a Master’s in Social Work, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Black Studies. My professional journey spans over 20 years across clinical practice, leadership, higher education, and public speaking — including being the founder and owner of Nia Counseling & Consulting Services, serving as Director of Social Work and Clinical Supervisor at the Institute of Living, adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University, and speaker and panelist featured on NPR and mental health platforms. At Nia Counseling & Consulting Services, we honor the beauty, resilience, and complexity of the communities we serve. We create spaces where Black individuals, people of color, and anyone seeking culturally sensitive care can finally lay down the weight they were never meant to carry alone. Our clients aren’t just seeking symptom relief, they are seeking healing that feels sacred, seen, and rooted in cultural truth. Whether you’re facing racialized stress, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, or other mental health challenges, you deserve care that meets you at your depth and that’s what we provide.
