Eric-Paul "EP" Olsson CNP, PMHNP-BC, is the founder and owner of Empowered Psychiatry, a mental health practice grounded in compassionate, inclusive, and affirming care for people across the lifespan. At Empowered Psychiatry, we believe mental health is an essential pillar of overall well-being — not separate from it — and that every person deserves access to thoughtful, respectful, and personalized psychiatric support. Before starting this practice, EP worked as a bedside nurse, where he cared for patients with complex physical health issues. Over time, it became heartbreakingly clear that many of these ailments were deeply connected to unaddressed emotional and psychiatric needs. That experience illuminated a truth that guides their work every day: you cannot treat the body without caring for the mind. In addition to witnessing the consequences of untreated mental health concerns, EP saw firsthand how few spaces genuinely supported queer and gender-diverse people with dignity, clarity, and clinical expertise. Motivated by the lack of affirming care available for LGBTQ+ individuals, he founded Empowered Psychiatry to be different — a place where clinical excellence meets respect for each person’s identity, autonomy, and lived experience. Under EP’s leadership, Empowered Psychiatry offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and integrative approaches — always centered on collaboration, empowerment, and culturally competent care. By fostering environments where people feel genuinely seen and heard, the practice helps individuals not only manage symptoms but also define and pursue their own definition of optimal functioning and well-being. EP is deeply committed to expanding access to mental health care, challenging stigma, and ensuring that people from all backgrounds — especially the LGBTQ+ community — have a safe place to receive high-quality psychiatric support.
