We have all suffered, and often our suffering is boiled down to a named symptom. Depression. Anxiety. This disorder, that disorder. Many of these are made up of their own set of symptoms. It is often easy to internalize these things and make them a part of our identity. “I am…” But what if these symptoms are simply a way for our true selves to get our attention? To send up the signal flare saying: “Hey! Look here! Pay attention!!” Something is off, and it is asking to be put right. Maybe the signal is a problem in a relationship or a family. Maybe it is a cycle of behaviors that always take you back to the same place saying: “Again? Really?!” Often these signals show up as conflict in families. I work with individuals and families who have chosen to examine the signals in their lives. Much of my work has been with adolescents and families who have struggled either with their own symptoms or through conflict and behavior issues in the home. I also work with adults who have suffered from unwanted or repetitive behaviors, often related to Anxiety, Depression, or Addiction.
