Hello, I am Gabriel and my approach to counseling is collaborative, empathic, non-judgmental, and empowering. I will help you create positive changes in your life through practicing self-compassion and mindfulness, embracing your strengths and core values, making decisions with clarity and then taking action. I can help you with anxiety, depression, anger, suicidal ideation, intrusive thoughts, general dissatisfaction, and addictions to substances or behaviors (like exercise, pornography, relationships, gaming, or social media). I also help people through periods of questioning “Who am I now?” and “How do I move forward?” This often happens during life transitions like: starting at a new school, graduating, moving, parenthood, divorce, retirement, embracing gender or sexual identity, questioning spirituality or religion, or adapting to major medical conditions. I’m especially passionate about helping people heal from Trauma (both PTSD and Complex/Developmental Trauma), grief and loss, and relationships with people who have selfish/narcissistic qualities. From my experience, Trauma can manifest as other conditions as well such as panic attacks, dissociation, OCD, Bipolar, Borderline PD, DID, Eating Disorders, body dysmorphia, chronic pain, and unexplainable physical symptoms. I specialize in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which is a way to explore and transform difficult patterns and beliefs by working with your parts from a place of curiosity and compassion. It is an evidence-based psychotherapy practice that builds resilience, self-advocacy, and connection. I also bring in elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by teaching skills and strategies for managing intense emotions, having difficult conversations, and effective problem-solving. And I help with strategies for adapting to living with ADHD and sensory sensitivities. We will collaboratively work on your short term goals so that you can feel more stable, resilient, and capable, and then we can address your long term goals by healing their root causes. I work with young adults (18+), middle-aged and older folks, and couples. I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University in 2023 and am Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York state. I also have the additional License for the Diagnostic Privilege. I have advanced training in IFS and somatic/body-oriented approaches to trauma. I’ve worked in a college, a jail, a state-funded agency, and another group practice. I helped those clients regain confidence after suffering many challenges including: childhood trauma, sexual abuse, eating disorders, and recreating their lives after jail, probation, and rehab. Besides counseling, I’ve been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2012 with advanced training in Biodynamic Craniosacral, which is a way of helping the body reconnect to its inherent healing source. In my personal life I love spending time with my wife, hiking, yoga and exercise, meditating, cooking, baking, learning new things, and watching Sci-Fi. I grew up in Rockland County and have lived in the Ithaca area since 2011.
