Introduction

Heather Baker received her Master’s in Education with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Akron. She has worked in a variety of settings, including community, residential, corrections, and acute settings. Heather works with children and adults with a variety of issues and is trained in trauma focused CBT and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. In the early part of her career, Heather had exposure to behavioral based philosophy and interventions working to build a residential program for transitional aged youth on the autism spectrum. In her approach, she draws from a wide range of theoretical orientations including but not limited to Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness based approaches. Heather has overseen a variety residential and inpatient programs. She has run parent support groups, social skills groups, and a variety of treatment based programs. Heather has worked with diverse youth with challenging behaviors including maladaptive sexualized behavior, aggression, and self-injury. She continues to work with families and youth who are struggling with mental health issues. She has worked with families to help meet the specific needs of each family member within the overall system.
