I believe our experiences shape us, but they don’t have to define us. The ways we think, feel, relate to others, and respond to difficult situations often make more sense when we understand where they came from. I see counseling as an opportunity to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. I don’t believe people need to be fixed. Instead, I see myself as someone who comes alongside you with clinical knowledge, curiosity, and perspective, with the goal of understanding your experience. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you see things from different perspectives, recognize patterns, build on your strengths, and develop the insight and skills that can help you make meaningful changes. I take a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach and draw from evidence-informed practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and attachment-informed perspectives. I believe counseling should be tailored to the individual rather than forcing every person into the same approach. I work with preteens, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, identity, self-worth, life transitions, and other experiences that can leave us feeling stuck or disconnected from ourselves. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Honors, summa cum laude, from Sam Houston State University through the Elliott T. Bowers Honors College. I went on to earn my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas State University. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate) in Texas, practicing under the supervision of Steve Beatty, LPC-S. And while I take the work seriously, I don’t think therapy has to feel overly serious or clinical. There is room for humor, curiosity, honesty, and simply being human.
