I was a teacher for several years, and I found myself addressing the students' emotional and behavioral needs. I decided to go back to school to be better equipped for such an undertaking. My passion is working with children from the ages of 3 to 12. I am trained in play therapy with an emphasis on child-centered play therapy. I work with children who have experienced trauma. This can be medical, emotional, verbal, or physical abuse. I work with children in foster care who are still in the system or who have been adopted. Before becoming a teacher, I stepped away from an abusive relationship that left me with little self-confidence and unable to trust the people around me. I spent several years in support groups and attending my own counseling. My other passion is working with adults who are surviving or have survived domestic violence. I am a certified clinical trauma professional. I approach sessions from a humanistic theory. I want you to walk away from sessions feeling you have been seen, heard, and understood. When you experience trauma, it can sometimes feel like an out-of-body experience, something that happened to someone else, or not real. My first goal is to help you develop a trusting therapeutic relationship. From there, I mix in psychoeducation, person-centered therapy, and internal family systems.
