Introduction

Helen earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in 2026. She also obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Ryerson University, now Toronto Metropolitan University, in 1987. Helen began her helping career as a social worker within foster care and adoption, as assistant director of a residential program for women with life-controlling problems, counseling in a youth health clinic, and working with children on the autism spectrum. She paused her career to raise her young family, which resulted in homeschooling her children for twenty years. During this time, she also focused on ministry service, and mentorship of women and high school/college students. Helen has a passion for helping adults, couples, and families grow toward sustainable change and healing. She has extensive experience working with women of all ages (teen through mature years). Helen’s personal experiences of trauma, loss, and grief have further shaped her to be a more understanding, empathic, and supportive counselor. Her scope of counseling practice includes, but is not limited to trauma, post-traumatic stress, grief and loss, betrayal, shame, relationship struggles, infertility, foster care and adoption, abuse and neglect, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Helen welcomes the integration of faith and spirituality in the counseling process when it aligns with clients’ preferences. Helen seeks to engage the whole person in counseling by recognizing each client’s uniqueness and multi-faceted potential for healthy change. She values collaborative counselor-client relationships by walking alongside clients and together navigating restorative healing pathways. Helen integrates various counseling approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. Helen enjoys music, reading, writing, gardening, hiking, and occasional crafting, and especially enjoys spending time with her family and young grandchildren. She has been married since 1987 and has four adult children.
