I believe in a strengths-based approach in which client and therapist work together to identify areas of growth and develop skills within that area. While I have an eclectic experience and knowledge of evidence based practices, my modality of choice is Internal Family Systems. I have found this modality to be an effective & human approach to therapy. I have been a clinical social worker for over 14 years and was trained as a trauma specialist by the Ferentz Institute in Baltimore. I am also a level 2 trained IFS Therapist. The majority of my specialized training has been in trauma but I have extensive experience with various mental health disorders and challenges including grief, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I have worked in multiple settings, such as treatment foster care, homeless shelters, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice. I have administered psychosocial assessments for the office of the public defender, and lead wellness groups for human service providers. I have hosted mental health seminars for private companies covering a wide range of topics. Additionally, I taught a seminar at the University of Maryland School of Social Work focusing on issues of oppression, privilege, cultural humility, and an anti-oppression framework in the context of a social work practice. I'm enthusiastic to be expanding my therapeutic approach at Starobin Counseling with neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy.
