Introduction

Jamila Coleman is a psycholegal counselor with more than two decades of experience supporting individuals and families affected by trauma, systems involvement, and behavioral health challenges. She holds a master’s degree in Social Justice Counseling from Antioch University and is completing her second master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Washington (Spring 2027) with a focus on administration, policy practice, and law. Her professional experience spans community behavioral health, crisis advocacy, psycholegal consultation, and trauma-informed care. Jamila specializes in working with adolescents and adults who have experienced psychological injury, institutional trauma, adverse life events, and other experiences that contribute to functional impairment. She frequently supports individuals living with post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and persistent rumination patterns that interfere with healing, decision-making, relationships, employment, and overall quality of life. Her work is grounded in the understanding that trauma can affect not only emotional well-being but also a person’s ability to function fully in daily life. Her therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive-Behavioral Hypnotherapy (CBH), Narrative Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She specializes in supporting clients understand and interrupt cycles of rumination, reduce trauma-related distress, strengthen psychological flexibility, and reconnect with values-driven action. Through a collaborative, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach, Jamila supports clients in moving beyond survival and toward meaningful engagement in their lives, relationships, and communities. Drawing from her training as a certified yoga instructor, Jamila also incorporates restorative yoga and somatic-based strategies into her therapeutic work when clinically appropriate. She believes healing occurs through both the mind and body, particularly for individuals whose trauma, psychological injuries, or chronic stress have contributed to functional challenges. These practices complement her Cognitive-Behavioral Hypnotherapy, Behavioral Activation, and trauma-informed approaches by supporting nervous system regulation, present-moment awareness, and sustainable recovery. Jamila’s mission is to empower individuals reclaim authorship of their lives following trauma, institutional harm, and other life-altering experiences. She believes healing involves more than symptom reduction—it includes restoring functioning, rebuilding a sense of agency, and creating space for growth beyond adversity. As she continues expanding her work in psychological injury recovery, trauma treatment, rumination reduction, and functional restoration, Jamila remains committed to providing compassionate, evidence-informed care that honors each client’s unique story and lived experience.
