For most of my adult life, I have been passionate about helping others navigate their mental health challenges. I have always had an innate desire to make a positive impact on people's lives. Moving from Georgia to Washington State in 1993, I have had the opportunity to fulfill that desire as a mental health therapist. Over the years, I have develop skills and a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities, recognizing their importance in, addressing the diverse needs of my clients. At the foundation of any successful therapy lies the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. This is where trust and respect begin. Regarding specialty areas, I have been a certified trauma specialist for many years. I also work with depression, social, anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and generalized anxiety disorder. I have extensive experience working with bipolar disorder and collaborate with medical specialists when appropriate. I work with parents, seeking guidance around children's mental health and behavioral concerns, and I am certified to provide services to both children and adults with autism. As a therapist, you will find that I am direct, confident and respectful. I will share aspects of my experiences when helpful, and I will talk with you - not at you. Therapy takes time and it is not a quick fix. There may be moments when the process feels difficult, or uncertain. While pain does not automatically produce healing, growth often requires discomfort. I am primarily a talk, therapist, but I incorporate additional modalities depending on your goals. I believe contentment is one of the most important in misunderstood goals in life. Happiness is often treated as something we should achieve or maintain, yet it is naturally fleeting and dependent on circumstance. Contentment, by contrast, is built through balance, alignment, and intentional effort. Developing that balance is not easy and often requires uncomfortable honesty. Therapy is an active process, and meaningful progress, requires reflection, accountability, and change. My role is to help you examine what is not working and build the structure necessary for a more stable and grounded life. Finally, I share my office with a therapy bird named Buddy. He enjoys observing sessions from his perch and greeting visitors. He is older now, and fairly relaxed, but still very much part of the space. If we decide to work together, you might find that he quietly contributes to the atmosphere in his own way. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you, and determine whether we are a good fit. Together, we can clarify your goals, and begin the work of building, a more balanced and content life. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
