I believe that chaos and suffering are inherent in life and will always be coming at us. My philosophy is to resolve the chaos and suffering that’s internal, so that we are better prepared to handle the chaos and suffering that’s external, or coming at us from outside. This is why I value acceptance. I don’t believe in accepting unnecessary suffering, but I believe in accepting life on life’s terms. I help my clients accept the things they can’t change so that they focus on the things they can. After all, it is human nature to try and solve external problems before working on our mental health. Time and again, when a problem arises, we tell ourselves: “I feel stressed because of this situation, therefore I need to fix the situation.” My goal is to flip that mindset. Instead of immediately going into problem-solving mode, I help clients get calm and emotionally regulated, and then focus on problem-solving. The less anxious we feel, the better we can handle whatever life throws our way.
