Hi, I'm Jennell Brown, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and the founder of Mending Minds, a private therapy practice in Toledo, Ohio. I named my practice after something I believe deeply and see in my work every day: because of neuroplasticity, our brains can change and adapt throughout our lives. Whatever has shaped you so far, it doesn't have to be the end of your story. Who I work with: Many of my clients look successful and capable from the outside. They're often the ones other people lean on. Inside, though, they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in a loop of self criticism. You might see yourself here if you are: • A high achiever who excels professionally but struggles to slow down, relax, or feel satisfied with your accomplishments. • Someone who is tired of overthinking, analyzing, and understanding your problems without seeing real change. • A person whose success has come at the expense of your well-being, relationships, or sense of fulfillment. • Someone who struggles with anxiety, self criticism, perfectionism, or burnout. • A person who recognizes unhealthy patterns in relationships but keeps finding yourself stuck in the same dynamics. • Someone who avoids difficult conversations, emotions, decisions, or boundaries even when you know what needs to happen. The clients who tend to benefit most from my approach are open minded, reflective, and ready to take an active role in their personal growth. How I work: My approach combines insight, regulation tools, and practical action. Sustainable change emerges when self understanding is combined with the ability to respond differently, not just think differently. We'll work to understand how your patterns were formed, while also building the awareness and capacity needed to make different choices moving forward. Together, we'll explore how your past experiences, relationships, and core beliefs have shaped the way you think, feel, and relate to others. We'll identify the strategies that once protected you but may now be keeping you stuck. At the same time, we'll pay attention to your nervous system and the ways stress, anger, anxiety, and unresolved experiences continue to influence your daily life. Through somatic and nervous system informed interventions, you'll learn how to regulate emotions, increase self-awareness, and feel more grounded. Together, we'll: • Understand the origins of recurring patterns and behaviors. • Develop greater self compassion without losing accountability. • Identify avoidance, self protection, and other barriers to growth. • Learn practical tools to regulate emotions and calm the nervous system. • Challenge beliefs and assumptions that no longer serve you. • Take intentional steps toward the life and relationships you want. I help clients navigate: • Anxiety and chronic stress. • Perfectionism and high functioning burnout. • Self criticism and low self worth. • Relationship difficulties and attachment patterns. • Boundaries and people pleasing. • Anger, irritability, and emotional reactivity. • Trauma and unresolved childhood experiences. • OCD and intrusive thoughts. • Life transitions and identity shifts. • Professional burnout and caregiver fatigue. • Grief and loss. While the challenges may differ, the goal of the work is often the same: understand yourself more deeply, respond more intentionally, and create lasting change. What therapy with me feels like: My style is direct, grounded, and compassionate. I'll ask thoughtful questions, offer honest observations, challenge patterns that are keeping you stuck, and help you see blind spots that may be difficult to recognize on your own. At the same time, you'll never be judged or shamed. I believe most behaviors make sense when we understand the experiences that shaped them. We can hold compassion for how you got here while gaining autonomy for where you want to go. Clients often tell me they appreciate having a therapist who is both supportive and straightforward, someone who can provide insight, accountability, and practical tools while creating a space where they feel genuinely understood. You don't need to have everything figured out before you start. You only need to be willing to look honestly at what's keeping you stuck and take steps toward something different.
