Introduction

Hello and welcome. I believe deeply in our human capacity for change, and I am grateful to join you on your journey. Our relationships with ourself and others determine our well-being, and these relationships require consistent, intentional nurturance and care. Seeking therapy is an act of courage and kindness: it honors our relationship with self and others by inviting meaningful, positive change. It can also, at times, be challenging and uncomfortable work. My goal is to provide for you a compassionate, hopeful, non-judgmental space to safely explore—at your own pace—where you have been, where you are, and where you may choose to be. My area of clinical focus is couples therapy and relational work. As a former domestic and sexual violence counselor and advocate, I have experience working with clients impacted by trauma, attachment injury, and wounded self-esteem. I believe in a creative, flexible, holistic approach to healing: we may invite wellness in through many different doors. I bring to our therapeutic relationship the guiding principles of emotionally-focused therapy, narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. Central to our work together, however, is you: your experience, your wisdom, your insight, and your goals for meaningful life changes. My style is open, warm, collaborative, and direct. As a systems psychotherapist, I encourage deeper and wider insight into our complex, interconnected relational experiences, roles, and patterns. We do not live in isolation: the context of our experience profoundly affects us. Our work together explores and identifies psychological and behavioral patterns contributing to distress and, in seeking alternative ways of being, encourages generative, meaningful, and lasting change. "Ori," as a word or part of a word, is cross-cultural: it shifts meaning within the diverse contexts of culture, language, belief systems, and experiences. In Japanese, "ori" can mean both "fold" and "opportunity," suggesting connection, possibility, and transformation. In Yoruba, its literal meaning, "head," signifies the intuitive, guiding essence of one's physical and spiritual being. In Hebrew, it means "my light"; in Latin, it means "rise" and "begin." I hold a BA from Vassar College, an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, and a Master of Family Therapy degree from Southern Connecticut State University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. I am committed, both professionally and personally, to principles and practices of cultural humility, anti-oppression, and transformative justice.
