Introduction

Hi there, I'm Jennifer! My name is Jennifer DeVore and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Kentucky providing tele-therapy. I primarily work with women and specialize in neurodivergent populations using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, strengths-based and narrative therapy. My approach Using a framework that honors neurodiversity, my approach will always vary by client according to needs and goals. We begin by talking about self care and what that means to you so you can feel better right away. Then we look at barriers that are keeping you from feeling good. This includes analyzing how you speak to yourself so we can identify the voice of your “inner critic.” We also find out if there are things in your environment holding you back. My focus As a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, I work primarily with women who identify as being neurodivergent. As this is a spectrum, each client will differ in their needs, goals and healing trajectory. Oftentimes, neurodivergent populations, particularly women diagnosed later in life, are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression and grief. I help my clients figure out where they are on their healing paths so they can let go of limiting beliefs and start rewriting a new narrative that allows them to move forward in life. My communication style My communication style is affirming, personable nonjudgmental and direct. I also often use humor in my work with clients because laughter helps us heal. My goal is to create a comfortable and safe environment where you can be free to be who you are. My journey to mental healthcare For me, the path to becoming a therapist started with a deep desire to understand myself. As a neurodivergent woman, my healing journey has been hard earned. Being a therapist is about paying my experience forward so that your path is perhaps a bit easier. I get great joy from helping my clients reach their goals. My goals for you At its core, therapy is about change. For most of us, change is hard and takes time. We’ll work together to create positive changes as quickly as possible in a safe environment without feeling hurried or rushed. Together, we’ll define the problem so you can begin to create your own personal blueprint for growth. As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I recognize who you are is not a flaw or disorder that needs to be fixed. Your brain is different, not broken. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is not a set of interventions, but rather an overarching philosophy that guides our work together. I won’t shove you into a neurotypical box. I will honor your life experience and act as a guide as you rewrite any false narratives that have kept you limited in life. My first session with you Making the choice to begin therapy is a brave step toward being who you want to become. During our first session together, I will ask you things like: "What brought you to therapy?" "What are some of your most distressing symptoms?" ”How long has this been happening?" And we’ll talk about your history including your childhood, education, relationships (family, romantic, friends), your current living situation and your career. Our first session will be about establishing a connection and building trust which lays the foundation for deeper healing.
