Introduction

Hello, and thanks for taking a moment to read about my private practice! I work with adults who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, their circumstances, and the challenges they face. Whether navigating a major life transition, struggling with persistent anxiety, feeling overwhelmed by stress, or simply looking for a clearer path forward, therapy can provide a practical and supportive space for growth and change. While I do not offer quick fixes or magic wands, I can offer sincere hope, expert guidance, and evidence-based strategies grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Over more than 25 years of clinical practice, I have helped individuals develop effective skills for managing stress, anxiety, insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), substance misuse, and the unique opportunities and challenges associated with neurodivergence. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping clients build lasting tools they can use in everyday life. Together, we work to identify unhelpful patterns, strengthen resilience, clarify personal values and goals, and create practical solutions that promote meaningful and sustainable change. I believe that every person brings strengths, experiences, and untapped resources to the therapeutic process. My role is to help clients recognize those strengths, understand the factors that may be holding them back, and develop a realistic plan for moving toward the life they want to live. My goal is not only to help people feel better, but to help them function better, make informed decisions, and approach life's challenges with greater confidence and effectiveness. Sincerely, Dr. Carter
