Introduction

Joanna is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA License # A19321) by the state of North Carolina in addition to being a National Certified Counselor (NCC Certification # 1728258) as endorsed by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). She received her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2023. Prior to that, she graduated in 2020 from Purdue University with minors in both psychology and human development and family sciences. As a counselor, Joanna views herself as a person-centered clinician who will take an integrative approach to each client. She believes it is important to meet clients where they are and that requires a variety of techniques and skills. She understands that the client is ultimately the expert in their own lived experiences, and it is her responsibility to adapt to their unique needs and purpose. As a standard of practice, she believes that acceptance, empathy, and understanding can be powerful tools in the counseling space, and offering the flexibility of a variety of resources is what she views as best practice. Joanna will utilize an integrative approach that best supports the clients in their counseling journey this includes things like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and many others. She will use her own expertise and understanding to collaboratively create a plan for wellness that addresses the individual concerns of the client. Joanna is passionate about providing resources and education to assist the counseling process and wants to empower clients in their self-discovery. Joanna practices trauma-informed, evidence-based care and will advocate for and alongside the client throughout the treatment process. In her spare time, Joanna enjoys a good book, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and trying new recipes. She strongly believes in community and likes to spend time volunteering with her church and family. “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”- Carl Rogers
