Introduction

Jocelyn Wilson is a licensed independent clinical social worker and certified social work supervisor. She has been licensed since 2011 and independently licensed since 2012, and is currently licensed in both Iowa and Illinois. She holds graduate degrees in social service administration/social work and divinity from the University of Chicago, where she lived in the Hyde Park area for 10 years. She has also completed one unit of clinical pastoral education (CPE) as a hospital chaplain. Jocelyn has served in the field of social work for over 25 years. Originally from Ames, Iowa, she spent the early part of her career in rural Missouri, her mid-career years in Chicago, and has been back in Iowa for the last 13 years. She brings extensive experience as both an administrative and clinical social worker. Her administrative work has encompassed continuous quality improvement, community organizing, and qualitative research. Her work on a community-based participatory research project — funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and administered by the New York Academy of Medicine's Center for Collaborative Strategies in Health — resulted in the publication of Engaging the Community in Decision Making (McFarland Press, 2009). Most recently, she served as Senior Clinical Director at a community mental health center serving youth 18 and under and their families. Her clinical experience spans a wide range of ages — from age 3 through end of life — and populations, including students from elementary through PhD level, couples, immigrants and refugees, individuals in hospice and palliative care, people experiencing poverty, parenting teens, individuals navigating prison reentry, survivors of domestic violence, and children in foster care and group homes. As a hospital chaplain, she was assigned to the NICU, PICU, and orthopedics units, where she conducted routine clinical rotations, trained physicians on the topic of Delivering Bad News, and served on-call one day per month — responding to all chaplaincy requests and deaths throughout the entire hospital. In her private practice, Jocelyn has had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, including executives and professionals in high-stress, high-stakes roles. She understands the unique pressures that come with leadership, complex decision-making, and the weight of responsibility — and provides a confidential, nonjudgmental space where high-functioning individuals can process stress, prevent burnout, and maintain the clarity and resilience their roles demand. She deeply values the diversity of the client populations she has had the privilege of serving, and the knowledge, expertise, and wisdom gained from that work. She enjoys spending time with her two adult sons and her granddaughter. When she is not in the office, Jocelyn can be found hiking at local parks, biking, and jogging around Ames. She also enjoys reading and is an active member of a local women's group.
