Introduction

Hi. I believe in the power of the human mind and heart to heal themselves. I focus on helping clients feel understood, cared for, and valued. These relational qualities give clients the courage to be honest with themselves and make changes. I work with clients who struggle in their relationships with themselves and those who matter most to them. As a couple therapist, I help clients heal from past relational traumas and talk to their partners with honest, open conversations, build stronger connections, and love each other. I practice the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. As an individual therapist, I help clients transform their loneliness, past relational trauma, and hurt. They learn to become open-minded and open-hearted. I share with you my clinical experience of over 25 years. I blend this experience with my training in meditation and mindfulness over the last 16 years. I give you my skilled attention, deep listening, honesty, and practical advice. I help couples remember love and share it. Who I help: Adults in California and Oregon, through online therapy. I work with couples and with individuals. Specializations: - Couples therapy using the Gottman Method - Premarital counseling - Recovering from affairs, substance abuse, and verbal abuse - Men's issues in relationships - LGBTQ relationships Problems I address: Couples who: - barely talk and listen to each other - keep arguing about the same things - have lost trust and sexual intimacy - cannot repair the damage they have done My approach Structured conversations: Partners talk directly to each other in session, so each one feels heard and understood. I teach them how to calm down and take time-outs. Practical skills: Couples learn to criticize less, get less defensive, calm down during conflict, and repair hurts. Thorough assessment: I start with the Gottman Relationship Check-Up to find the couple's strengths and the areas they need to work on. Small daily changes: I focus on everyday kindness and respect rather than big overhauls. Respect for each couple: I work within the couple's own values. I help partners accept their differences instead of trying to change each other. What clients gain: - Better communication and real conversations - Less conflict, and a sense of working as a team - More trust, closeness and physical intimacy - Seeing their partner as a friend, not an enemy - Ways to reconnect after they are hurt Why choose me? - Over 25 years of counseling experience - Trained in the Gottman approach built on 50+ years of research on couples - As a mindfulness practitioner, I listen deeply and with empathy - Experienced in online therapy; clients can meet from home - Creator and host of the *Couples In Love Talk* podcast on Spotify https://zencare.co/provider/marriage-family-therapist/john-fulan
