Dr. John Menaker is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice, offering psychotherapy to adults, teens, and couples. He has over 20 years of experience working with individuals navigating a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges. Dr. Menaker works with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, burnout, grief, adult ADHD, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, and periods of feeling stuck or uncertain about direction. People often seek his work when they feel overwhelmed, confused by recurring patterns, or unsure how to make sense of what they’re experiencing. His therapeutic approach is grounded in a depth-oriented, relational (psychodynamic) framework, with attention to how emotional patterns develop and function over time. When helpful, he also integrates practical, goal-oriented strategies drawn from evidence-based CBT approaches to support symptom relief and emotional regulation. His work is collaborative, flexible, and responsive to each individual’s needs. Dr. Menaker received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University after attending the Claremont Colleges in Southern California. His clinical training has included work in community mental health centers, college counseling services, residential/day treatment programs, and hospital settings. These experiences have shaped a culturally attuned, thoughtful approach to psychotherapy and a deep respect for the many ways people adapt, endure, and change. He maintains offices in Brooklyn Heights and Rockland County and also offers remote sessions when appropriate.
