Hello! My name is Dr. Joseph D. Censor. As a psychologist and as a generally curious, introspective, and reflective person, I continually strive to gain a deeper understanding of the human psyche and the human experience. I enjoy connecting with people and helping them enhance their mental health and wellbeing, and I have acquired extensive skill and experience in treating a wide range of psychological issues. In my private practice, I provide a variety of psychological services, including consultation, psychological assessment, individual psychotherapy, couple therapy, prevention services, and clinical supervision. Over the years that I have been practicing, I have helped people with many different psychological issues and mental health disorders, including personal, interpersonal, and environmental stress; marital, familial, communal, and spiritual conflict; identity confusion and development; anger management difficulties; organization and time management challenges; adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); depression; and anxiety. Additionally, I specialize in treating unresolved grief and psychological trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), substance use disorders, and behavioral addictions. I have experience with many types of psychotherapy. However, I primarily utilize classical cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) approaches, while also drawing on psychoanalytic principles and processes. Treatments are delivered flexibly and integratively and are individualized based on each patient’s unique needs, goals, and preferences. Above all, I strive to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients, characterized by warmth, empathy, validation, genuineness, trust, and collaboration on identified treatment goals. I am committed to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, and I am guided by the principles of evidence-based practice in psychology (EBPP), integrating the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture, and preferences. I work primarily with older adolescents and adults and have substantial experience working with military veterans and active-duty service members. I offer services in person at my office in Mequon, Wisconsin, and remotely via video or telephone to people located in Wisconsin, New York, and any of the 43 PSYPACT participating states (see: https://psypact.gov/page/psypactmap). If I can be of any help, please reach out to me. I look forward to connecting with you!
