Hello and Welcome! I’m Dr. Kaitlyn Hounshell, M.D., a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I began my journey in medicine with an undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from Western Kentucky University, then went on to earn my medical degree from the University of Louisville. I completed my residency in adult psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Pine Rest Mental Health Services in collaboration with Michigan State University. I am passionate about working within family systems and supporting individuals across all stages of life—from young children and adolescents to young people transitioning into adulthood and peripartum adults. My training includes effective medication management as well as evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and some experience with family therapy. I especially enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals on the autism spectrum, neurodivergent individuals, and those living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In my approach, I aim to look at the whole picture. That means not only considering therapy and medication when needed, but also recognizing the role of family dynamics, sleep, nutrition, social connectedness, and educational growth in overall mental health. My goal is to partner with children, young adults, and families to create supportive systems that empower individuals to heal and thrive!
