Introduction

Karey Swartwout, MA, LPC-Associate, is a psychotherapist and founder of Swartwout Group, a private counseling practice based in Austin serving adults, parents, couples, adolescents, and families throughout Texas. She works with clients navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, parenting concerns, grief, burnout, life transitions, and the emotional demands that often accompany busy, complex lives. Before becoming a therapist, Karey spent more than two decades building businesses, leading organizations, and working alongside individuals and teams through periods of growth, uncertainty, and change. As the parent of a large blended family and someone who has navigated multiple professional and personal transitions, she understands that many of life's challenges cannot be separated into neat categories. Work affects family. Relationships affect health. Major decisions affect identity. Karey believes that lasting change often begins with understanding the broader context of a person's life. Therapy provides an opportunity to step back and make sense of those intersections. Drawing from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, family systems, and solution-focused approaches, Karey helps clients gain insight and develop healthier patterns. Her approach is warm, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based practices. Clients often appreciate Karey's ability to help them see situations more clearly and make thoughtful decisions that align with their values. She creates a supportive, confidential space where people can explore challenges honestly, better understand themselves, and move forward with tools that build greater confidence and resilience. Karey earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Communications from Texas State University. She provides counseling services through individual therapy, family consultation, workshops, and educational presentations. Karey is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association, and the American Psychological Association.
