"Compassionate care specializing in addiction recovery, trauma healing, and co-occurring mental health conditions." Welcome to Terrapin Counseling! I'm Katie McCabe, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with more than three decades of experience helping adolescents, adults, and families navigate life's challenges. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship difficulties, or trying to better understand your own neurodivergence, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive place where you feel heard, understood, and never judged. I specialize in working with individuals recovering from substance use disorders, those experiencing trauma and co-occurring mental health concerns, and neurodivergent adolescents and adults, including those with ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD. I also enjoy supporting parents of neurodivergent children as they navigate school systems, IEPs, and the unique challenges of raising exceptional kids. As both a clinician and a parent, I understand that life is rarely simple. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by experiences that don't fit neatly into one diagnosis. Together, we'll work to understand how those experiences connect while building practical skills, resilience, and hope. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma-informed care, and psychoeducation. I'm a storyteller at heart, and I often use humor and real-life examples to make complex psychological concepts easier to understand. I believe that when people understand *why* they're struggling, they can begin making meaningful and lasting changes with greater confidence and self-compassion. I believe healing begins with understanding. Together, we'll make sense of your story and help you move forward with hope.
