I work with people who’ve tried everything on their own and are still stuck, or who are working hard to show up for the people who matter, and have been asked to go to therapy by one of those people. If you're one of those people, you might feel numb, or you might be numbing out. You might feel like you have no other choice than to do things the way you have been. Or maybe you have a sense that things could be better, but feel you're lacking the tools to get there. Maybe you feel on edge a lot of the time, or irritable and angry. Perhaps you recognize these things in your partner and are seeking couples therapy. In therapy we’ll slow down and get curious about what’s really going on. Chances are there are unhelpful patterns at work, and those patterns can be changed. We can slowly work towards deeper insight and understanding while at the same time build practical tools that you can put to work immediately. Before becoming a therapist, I taught math and spent years as a software engineer and manager. I'm an analytical thinker and problem solver, and I've also come to appreciate the less rational and concrete world of the emotional and existential. That shapes how I work; we'll look logically at what's not working, but also get curious about what's underneath.
