Hello, I’m Dr. Kelsey Shogren, a licensed clinical psychologist in California. I specialize in treating body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), including hair pulling (trichotillomania) and skin picking (excoriation disorder). My approach is practical and behavioral: we work on increasing awareness of when and how pulling or picking happens, developing concrete strategies to interrupt the behavior, and understanding what the behavior is doing for you in the first place. This might mean looking at sensory needs, emotions, boredom, stress, habits, or situations that make the behavior more likely. Treatment is individualized, with the goal of helping you have more choice and control around pulling or picking and reducing the impact it has on your life. I bring both specialized clinical training and lived experience with BFRBs to this work.
